Pine River third grade scientists had a fantastic time at the Chippewa Nature Center! Students explored hands-on stations to deepen their understanding of animal classification, learning all about birds, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and fish. It was an engaging day of discovery and fun in nature!
Consumers Energy visited the fourth-grade classrooms at Pine River Elementary today to teach students about energy. The kids learned how electricity is generated, explored renewable and nonrenewable energy sources, discussed safety around electricity, discovered how their bodies serve as conductors while other materials act as insulators, and learned ways to conserve energy. Each student received a home energy kit to help their family conserve energy. Thank you, Consumers Energy, for the informative and interactive lesson!
Our 5th graders have been learning about wetlands, forests, and meadows. As part of a community project, they partnered with the Chippewa Nature Center to help protect native habitats by removing buckthorn, an invasive species.

The Pine River Elementary runners had a beautiful morning for a run at the Delta Invitational. Two runners ran 2 miles and the others ran 3/4 of a mile. They all ran hard and finished strong!
The 4th graders at Pine River are kicking off Creek Week at the Chippewa Nature Center! This week, they’re exploring survival skills. Yesterday’s adventures included practicing compass skills and building different types of shelters like tarp shelters, debris huts, and lean-tos.
Mrs. Little’s 4th graders have been enjoying partner reading outside. The weather has been perfect, and the students have been focused and working hard as they read and explore a historical biography—the first book in our new Bookworms curriculum.
While exploring informational text structures in Bookworms, students in Mrs. Bradley's 5th grade class engaged with a variety of mentor texts—thanks to a generous grant aimed at increasing access to diverse literature in classrooms.
Miss Hannah’s class kicked off their reading journey with Owen Foote, Money Man — their first book in the Bookworms program. The students had so much fun exploring the story, and one of the best parts was getting to work with Brett for the first time this year. What a great way to start their year of reading together!
Pine River students and even the turkeys are having a great time exploring the new playground equipment. It has quickly become a favorite spot for everyone.
